Akemi is my 1st dog on my own, so she’ll always have a special place in my heart!
I needed to persuade my parents to keep Tamami’s one and only daughter at home and as the decision was made, I planed a big show and breeding career with her. But as life goes, everything turned out to be different. Akemi was not a great show dog and as a teenager I gave up to fast, I think. Also breeding didn’t work because of family reasons at this time.
When she was about 5 years old, I started to be interested in modern dog training methods such as clicker training and I used her for trying out my new knowledge. At this time she turned out to have a great will to please (or will to eat ;-) and I worked a lot with her. Now she’s trained in Dog Dancing and she still loves to work (yes, Akitas can be trained too ;-)
Also in the show ring she is a Diva now! Now she’s my best show dog, because she loves to do it and is very easy to handle. Of course she still have her faults – according to the new Akita standard, but for her age she’s in a condition, you can dream of and still points with her great movement. So she made it to Slovenian and Austrian Veteran Champion, Austrian Veteran Club Champion, Austrian and Slovenian Veteran Club Winner and (what I’m really proud of) some main ring placements at Best Veteran in Show!
As long as we both of us have so much fun in showing, we will not stop it completely, even if there are not much titles she could reach anymore, but we love to show what can be in a nearly 11-year-old dog! |
